Minor Surgery

Some of our GPs provide minor surgery procedures that are suitable to be carried out in a primary care setting. The practice has a dedicated and well-equipped operating suite.

Blood Tests & Swabs

Blood tests are carried out daily by morning appointment at both surgeries. Swabs are taken daily at both surgeries, if needed.

If you are ringing regarding your test results, please allow up to five working days for blood tests, and up to ten working days for radiology tests. For other tests, you will be advised on the expected processing time by the clinician. It is preferred that you ring between 2:00pm and 5:00pm for test results as there is less demand on the telephone lines.

Please note, the surgery does not routinely take bloods on behalf of hospital doctors unless directly agreed between the hospital and surgery. There is a phlebotomy department at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr for adult blood tests requested by hospital consultants.

Direct Access Physiotherapy

For patients with musculoskeletal problems, we offer direct access physiotherapy for assessment, advice, and referral for further management without the need to see a GP. Sessions are held fortnightly at Nantgarw Road Medical Centre. Patients are seen pre-booked appointment only.

Counselling

Our practice-based Counsellor holds a weekly session at the Medical Centre. Appointment is by GP referral only.

Self-Certification of Short Term Illness

If you are off work for short term illness (up to 7 days), you can self certify for statutory sick pay (SSP) purposes without the need to see a GP, by completing a self-certificate form online

Smoking Cessation

Weekly clinics are held at the medical centre run by Stop Smoking Wales.

Wound Care

We run regular Wound Clinics for patients with complex wounds and leg ulcers, which can practically be managed in a primary care setting.

Private Medical Examinations & Reports

These are not covered by the National Health Service and will usually carry a fee (please ask for a quote before requesting). If you are a existing patient and require a medical (e.g. for employment or insurance purposes), please contact reception to make an appointment and we will advise you on the nature of the fee involved and whether or not the GPs can do the work. Please state the type of examination you require.

Please note that GPs will only accept  private requests within their expertise. Please note these exams are not done in normal surgery time, and are arranged at times when GP is not normally providing NHS sessions.

Also the doctors do not routinely accept to do private letters of support regarding housing, sickness benefits, mental capacity, bus/rail cards etc. Generally information requested from organisations regarding your health is contained in your medical notes which you can use for support. You do have the right to request copy (please see our Information & Data Protection page on our website). Unfortunatly we do not counter sign passport applications.

Travel Vaccinations & Advice

Fit For Travel

Fit For Travel

Our Practice Nurses are able to provide travel vaccinations (NHS ONLY)  for areas where vaccine protection is recommended. Please note, some courses need to be administered 6 weeks before travel.

Some protection such as malaria tablets are not available via the NHS, and therefore will incure charges via private prescription. Patients who have a complicated itenary are recommended to seek advice from specialist travel clinics.

Before contacting us you may wish to check general health / vaccination advice on destinations on the Fit For Travel website. Before booking an appointment for travel vaccines you need to complete a pre-travel questionnaire which can be downloaded from our website.
